Police have arrested a man who’s been charged with murdering a six-month-old family member.
It was on Tuesday, May 24 when cops responded to a call of an unconscious baby at 444 Second Avenue. When the boy was unresponsive, little Alex-Jose Fernandez was taken by an EMS team to Beth Israel where he was later pronounced dead on arrival.
The cause of death is to be officially determined by the medical examiner, but so far cops said they suspect it was shaken baby syndrome.
Luis Melendez, 33, who lived in the same 17th floor apartment as Alex-Jose, has been charged with Murder 2, reckless assault of a child, and endangering the welfare of the child.
Police at the 13th Precinct declined to comment further on the case due to the ongoing investigation.
