Man sought in connection with robberies

The NYPD is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man wanted in connection with five robberies. The suspect seems to target women exclusively, and has a habit of covering victims’ mouths before prying wallets or cell phones from them.

On May 12, the suspect, who is described as a six-foot black man in his 30s, approached a 26-year-old woman in front of 315 East 18th Street, at knifepoint and demanded her wallet. The incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. He then fled westbound on 18th Street.

The next day, at 8:55 a.m., the suspect grabbed a 27-year-old woman from behind, at 2nd Avenue and East Houston Street, covered her mouth and demanded her wallet. The following day, the crook struck again in front of 202 East 6th Street. Hooking his arm around the neck of a 24-year-old woman, he grabbed her cell and took off. Similar occurrences have taken place on Lafayette and Bleeker Streets, and Wall Street.
