Spike in car break-ins around PCV/ST

Cops at the 13th Precinct have issued a warning to community residents not to leave electronics in plain vew in their cars, following a spike in auto thefts around Stuyvesant Town.

Crooks have been breaking through car windows and swiping electronics such as GPS systems, computers and cell phones. The precinct’s commanding officer, Deputy Inspector Ted Berntsen, added that even computers stowed away in the trunk could be at risk. He recommended keeping valuables hidden from plain sight, so that even if the doors are opened, there is nothing to see
