Police discovered a dead 48-year-old man in a Stuyvesant Town apartment at 446 East 20th Street on Saturday, April 9. Another resident of the building alerted T&V to the incident, noting that as far as other tenants on the floor were aware, the apartment where the man was found was unoccupied.

However, police said that the man’s home address was listed as the apartment where he was found. Blackstone representative Paula Chirhart confirmed that the person found in the apartment was in fact a legal tenant in the building.

According to the NYPD, the man was found unresponsive in the apartment, lying face down on the couch. Police said that the death did not appear suspicious. A spokesperson for the Medical Examiner’s office confirmed that the resident died of natural causes due to complications from diabetes mellitus. The man’s identity is being withheld by police pending family notification.

  1. Tells you something about the transient nature of the current tenancy that no one on the floor even knew he lived there.

    • You got that right, T-Mac. Fortunately, on my floor all but two units are long-timers and we look out for each other. The two renovated units are revolving doors.
