TEEN ARRESTED FOR PUTTING COP IN HEADLOCK ON FIRST AVENUE
Police arrested a teenager at the corner of First Avenue and East 15th Street last Wednesday at 7 p.m. for assault of a peace officer. Police were attempting to place the teen under arrest in regards to an attempted robbery when he flailed his arms and pushed the officer’s hands away. The teen also punched the officer in the face and placed the officer in a headlock, attempting to cut off the officer’s breathing.
The teen, whose name is being withheld due to his age, was also charged with obstruction of breath, resisting arrest, an unclassified misdemeanor and assault.
KNIFEPOINT ROBBERY AT 30TH STREET MEN’S SHELTER
Police arrested 45-year-old John Jemison for allegedly robbing another man at knifepoint at the 30th Street Men’s Shelter at 400 East 30th Street. The victim told police that he and Jemison got into an argument over money last Tuesday at 9:24 p.m. when Jemison allegedly pulled out a gravity knife and held it up to his throat while reaching into the victim’s pocket and taking out cash. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
MAN BUSTED FOR BREAKING CAR MIRRORS IN STUY TOWN
Police arrested 21-year-old John Christian in front of 505 East 14th Street last Friday at 3:28 a.m. for allegedly smashing car mirrors. Stuyvesant Town Public Safety told police that they had received a complaint about a man damaging the cars.
When police arrived in the area, they saw Christian allegedly in the act of damaging a car mirror and after he was stopped, police said that there were six cars nearby with similar damage. He was charged with criminal mischief.
CONCIERGE PUNCHED AT MT. SINAI BETH ISRAEL
Police arrested 59-year-old Eddie Rose for assault inside Mount Sinai Beth Israel at 10 Union Square East last Tuesday at 1:40 p.m. A concierge at the hospital said that he was helping a woman in a wheelchair when Rose allegedly began bothering her. The concierge said that he told Rose to leave her alone when the suspect allegedly said, “Get out of my face or I’ll punch you in the face.” Police said the concierge told Rose again that he should leave and Rose then allegedly punched the concierge in the face.
BIKE RIDER ARRESTED FOR BAG SNATCHING ON LEX
Police arrested 22-year-old Jason Fulton in front of 342 East 23rd Street last Friday after he allegedly rode up to a woman on his bike and snatched her bag.
The victim told police that she was walking down Lexington Avenue at around 1 a.m. while on her cell phone with her purse under her left arm when Fulton came up to her from behind and grabbed the bag out of her hands. The victim said that he made a right turn on East 24th Street and she chased him down while calling 911.
While she was searching the area, she got an alert on her phone that her credit card had been used inside the CVS at 342 East 23rd Street. A canvass of the location found a man fitting Fulton’s description and police said that the victim positively identified him at the scene. Fulton was allegedly in possession of the victim’s credit card and items he had recently purchased with that credit card.
Fulton was charged with grand larceny and possession of stolen property.
PICKPOCKET ARRESTED NEAR 23RD STREET/PAS SUBWAY STATION
Police arrested 49-year-old Darin Mickens for grand larceny and possession of stolen property last Tuesday at 4:49 p.m. in front of 297 Park Avenue South. Police said that Mickens was seen casing a woman near the southeast corner of East 23rd Street and Park Avenue South, and when she started going into the subway, Mickens was allegedly following closely behind. Police said he then reached into her backpack and took her wallet, which contained two credit cards and cash. When police stopped him, he was allegedly in possession of the stolen property.
MAN ARRESTED AFTER ‘HITTING’ GUEST AT ACE HOTEL
Police arrested 29-year-old Jordan Nichols for criminal trespass inside the Ace Hotel at 20 West 29th Street last Tuesday at 6:38 a.m. A security officer at the hotel told police that they were getting numerous calls from other guests that Nichols was allegedly roaming the hallways, causing a disturbance, and had hit a guest in another room. Nichols was a guest in the hotel but security said that after the complaints, they discharged him from the room.
Police searched on multiple floors before they found him and he was eventually located in the lobby. Police said that they were escorting him out because they had received numerous calls about him banging on other guests’ doors and had allegedly shoved a guest in the face.
He was escorted back to his room to retrieve his belongings and once inside, he allegedly refused to leave after being told multiple times to do so. He allegedly took off his shirt and laid on the bed, saying, “I am not leaving, you’re going to have to pull me out of here, f–king arrest me.”
MAN ARRESTED FOR ‘STEALING’ PURSE AT BROW SALON
Police arrested 42-year-old Luis Montcinos Barrera for grand larceny and possession of stolen property inside Sania’s Brow Bar at 48 West 20th Street last Monday at 4:07 p.m. The victim’s purse was on the floor next to her and police said that Montcinos Barrera concealed the bag with his own bag and left the location.
TWO ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT ON EAST 24TH
Police arrested 27-year-old Edwin Caba and 29-year-old Joshua Lord for assault in front of 215 East 24th Street last Wednesday at 3:09 a.m. The victim told police that Caba and Lord approached him on the street and they got into an argument. Police said that Caba and Lord swung at the victim, hitting him in the head. Caba allegedly threw the victim onto his back, causing an injury to his head and causing his property to fall out of his pockets.
Police said that Caba then grabbed the victim’s phone and threw it across the street, damaging it, and when he was searched, he was allegedly in possession of the victim’s wallet and keys. Caba was additionally charged with grand larceny and criminal mischief. No further information was available about what started the dispute.
MAN ARRESTED AFTER CAR BREAK-IN ATTEMPT
Police arrested 39-year-old John Bofill in front of 67 West 14th Street last Wednesday at 8:53 p.m. after catching him allegedly trying to break into a car. Police said that Bofill was seen with wire cutters in his hand while trying to break into a vehicle by hitting the car window. Police said that he was in possession of an alleged crack pipe, a joint and a wrench in addition to the wire cutters. Bofill was charged with burglar’s tools, petit larceny, criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
