Police Watch: Man arrested for snatching phone, Groceries stolen from Kips Bay senior

‘MUGGER’ KNOCKS WOMAN TO THE GROUND FOR HER PHONE  ON EAST 21ST STREET
Police arrested 33-year-old Eulofio Cardona after he allegedly threw a woman to the ground and snatched her phone. The victim told police that she was standing on East 21st Street last Wednesday at 9 a.m. when Cardona ripped her phone out of her hand and then fled east on his bike.
The victim said she suffered cuts on her hands and knees as a result of being knocked to the ground.
Police arrested Cardona in front of 201 East 21st Street, charging him with robbery, grand larceny and possession of stolen property.

MAN ARRESTED FOR STEALING GROCERIES FROM KIPS BAY SENIOR
Police arrested 54-year-old Leslie Vereen for petit larceny inside 14 East 28th Street last Friday at 1:30 a.m. Vereen allegedly entered the victim’s apartment and left with several bags of groceries without permission. Police said that the victim is a 74-year-old man who suffers from dementia. Vereen could allegedly be seen on a security camera leaving the victim’s apartment with the groceries.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT AT SECOND AND EAST 27TH
Police arrested 30-year-old Mamoun Khalil-Mohsen for assault last Monday at 5:51 a.m. at the corner of Second Avenue and East 27th Street. Police said that Khalil-Mohsen hit the victim with a belt, causing a cut and a welt on his upper back.

DRIVER ARRESTED FOR HITTING CYCLIST AFTER ARGUMENT
Police arrested Baljinder Singh for assault and reckless endangerment in front of 135 West 16th Street last Saturday at 7:46 p.m. The victim said that she got into an argument with Singh in front of 355 West 16th Street but got on her bicycle and proceeded to head east. Singh allegedly followed her in his vehicle, which was a black Toyota Suburban. Police said that he intentionally hit the front of the victim’s bicycle, causing her to fall off and sustain cuts to her left arm and leg.

MAN BUSTED FOR STOLEN PHONE
Police arrested 24-year-old Lorenzo Rentas for possession of stolen property in front of 137 Fifth Avenue last Tuesday at 4:06 p.m. Rentas was allegedly found in possession of a stolen cell phone. Police said the victim was at work when her phone was stolen and Vazquez had allegedly contacted her, wanting money in exchange for the phone.

PUBLIC DRINKER BUSTED AT BELLEVUE SOUTH
Police arrested 45-year-old Ray James for possession of a controlled substance in Bellevue South Park at 490 Second Avenue last Thursday at 8:53 a.m. Police said that James was seen drinking a Colt 45 in plain view in the park and when he was stopped, he was allegedly in possession of a clear glass bong containing residue.

MAN ARRESTED FOR POT SALE ON SIXTH AVE.
Police arrested 25-year-old Demike Sanchez for sale and possession of marijuana in front of 890 Sixth Avenue last Saturday at 7:50 p.m. Police said that Sanchez sold a quantity of marijuana to an undercover officer.

ARREST FOR PURSE THEFT AT UNION SQUARE STARBUCKS
Police arrested 22-year-old Alexandro Rodriguez for petit larceny inside the Starbucks at 41 Union Square West last Tuesday at 12:02 p.m. An employee told police that Rodriguez allegedly could be seen on surveillance video swiping a purse from the locker room.

ASSAULT ON WEST 15TH
Police arrested 39-year-old Kevin Marrero for assault in front of 130 West 15th Street last Tuesday at 1:13 p.m. Police said that Marrero punched the victim in the face, causing substantial pain and bleeding.

MAN ARRESTED FOR CASING VANS
Police arrested 44-year-old Santos Vasquez for burglars tools and petit larceny in front of 158 West 23rd Street last Tuesday at 3:50 p.m. Police said that Vazquez was observed casing a van in an attempt to take items from the vehicle that didn’t belong to him. Vazquez was also allegedly in possession of a screwdriver in his back pocket, which is commonly used as a burglar’s tool. Police said that Vazquez was also casing a van at the corner of Third Avenue and East 14th Street.

MAN ARRESTED FOR DINE-AND-DITCH AT CAFETERIA
Police arrested 23-year-old Andrew Andujar for theft inside Cafeteria at 119 Seventh Avenue last Wednesday at 1:14 a.m. Police said that Andujar entered the restaurant with four other people and ordered food and drinks but they allegedly walked out without paying the bill.

PANHANDLER ARRESTED AT FIRST AVENUE CHASE BANK
Police arrested 42-year-old Marvin Townsend for panhandling and possession of marijuana in front of First Avenue and East 15th Street last Thursday at 10:13 a.m. Police said that Townsend was panhandling in front of the Chase Bank entrance by holding the door open during business hours. Townsend also had alleged marijuana in his right shoe. He was charged with an unclassified misdemeanor and possession of marijuana.

MAN BUSTED WITH ‘BURGLAR’S TOOLS’ ON WEST 23RD STREET
Police arrested 45-year-old Monty Carlton for burglar’s tools, theft of services and possession of stolen property last Thursday at 10:18 a.m. at the corner of Sixth Avenue and West 23rd Street. Carlton was allegedly in possession of a booster bag and police said that he was seen casing several businesses on Sixth Avenue. He then entered the PATH station at West 23rd Street and Sixth Avenue, where he allegedly jumped over the turnstile. When he was stopped, he was allegedly in possession of stolen property and burglar’s tools.
