Police Watch: Knife-point robbery in Union Square, Man busted for ransoming found cell phone

MAN BUSTED FOR KNIFE-POINT ROBBERY IN UNION SQUARE
Police arrested 31-year-old Kevin Ullah for robbery in front of 28 Union Square East last Wednesday at 10:31 a.m. The victim said that she was sitting on a bench in Union Square Park when Ullah sat down on the same one. Ullah then allegedly stood up, pulled out a knife and demanded her phone and wallet. After she handed them over, she said that Ullah walked away and she followed him. A witness who saw the incident followed Ullah with the victim while on the phone with the police. Police said that Ullah was walking in the direction of Barnes and Noble and was arrested at the northwest corner of East 17th Street and Union Square West. Ullah was also charged with menacing and weapons possession.

MAN ARRESTED FOR RANSOMING CELL PHONE
Thirty-year-old Christopher Horn was arrested for grand larceny by extortion at the corner of Fifth Avenue and West 23rd Street last Monday at 8:27 p.m. The victim told police that her father received a text message that said, “Found your daughter’s cell phone if you want it back.” They agreed to meet at the Bank of America at West 23rd Street and Fifth to make the exchange. Police said that Horn met the victim’s father there but when officers who accompanied him moved in to speak with Horn, he allegedly decided to run. Police said that Horn struggled with the officers and pepper spray was used to subdue him. Horn allegedly flailed his arms and did not allow officers to handcuff him. He was also charged with resisting arrest.

MAN NABBED FOR PHONE THEFT AT MOUNT SINAI BETH ISRAEL
Police arrested 44-year-old Luis Alviero for petit larceny last Monday at 8 a.m. inside the 13th precinct. Police said that Alviero went into a patient’s room at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital at 281 First Avenue and took his cell phone.

MAN ARRESTED FOR VEHICULAR ASSAULT IN FLATIRON
Thirty-year-old Adam Hernandez was arrested for vehicular assault at the corner of Sixth Avenue and West 19th Street last Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. According to the District Attorney’s office, Hernandez drove a taxi through a red light and hit a woman who was crossing the street. A witness also told the DA’s office that Hernandez’s taxi hit a car that was in front of his in such a way that the victim was pinned between the two cars. The victim reportedly suffered bruising, swelling and substantial pain. Hernandez allegedly said that he intentionally hit the victim with his taxi.

MAN ARRESTED FOR COCAINE AT EAST 23RD AND AVE. C
Police arrested 25-year-old Abhishant Tripathi for possession of a controlled substance at the corner of Avenue C and East 23rd Street last Wednesday at 8:57 p.m. Police said that Tripathi was at the corner with a bag of alleged cocaine in his hand and a rolled up $5 bill that he was using as drug paraphernalia.

MAN NABBED FOR SELLING COKE ON WEST 27TH
Police arrested 61-year-old Keith Rhodes for sale of a controlled substance inside 153 West 27th Street last Wednesday at 4:01 p.m. Police said that Rhodes sold a quantity of cocaine to an undercover officer in exchange for cash on six different dates. After police got a search warrant, Rhodes was found in possession of alleged cocaine. He was also charged with intent to sell a controlled substance.

MAN ARRESTED FOR SHATTERING DELI DOOR
Police arrested 53-year-old Derrick Lynn for assault in front of Third Avenue Quik Stop at 390 Third Avenue last Thursday at 12:30 a.m. The victim told police that she was attempting to hold the door closed to prevent Lynn from coming into the store. Lynn then allegedly threw a glass bottle at the front glass door, causing it to shatter. Police said that the impact caused the victim to fall through the door and cut her palm on her right hand and her upper arm. Lynn was also charged with criminal mischief and weapons possession.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER ARGUMENT IN UNION SQUARE STATION
Police arrested 28-year-old Elijah Taylor inside the Union Square subway station after he allegedly claimed that he had a knife and would use it. Police said that last Saturday at 12:32 a.m. Taylor got into an argument with someone while on the platform and allegedly threatened the victim by stating that he had a knife and would stab him. Police said that Taylor lunged at the victim and also allegedly flailed his arms to prevent being handcuffed. Taylor was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and harassment.

MAN BUSTED FOR ASSAULT ON WEST 21ST
Police arrested 26-year-old Robert Kaar for assault in front of 55 West 21st Street last Sunday at 3:14 a.m. Police said that Kaar punched the victim in the head without warning, causing the victim to fall to the ground and hit his head on a step. The fall caused a cut on his head. Police confirmed what a witness told them by viewing security footage that was available at the business. Kaar was detained by security until police arrived.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT ON SIXTH AVE.
Police arrested 26-year-old Wilbert Ruiz for assault last Sunday at 6:04 p.m. inside 665 Sixth Avenue.
The victim told police that he got into an argument with someone in Il Bastardo at 191 Seventh Avenue when Ruiz allegedly came from behind and hit him in the forehead with a Hennessy bottle. The bouncer had to grab Ruiz to escort him from the restaurant when Ruiz allegedly threatened to hit him with a Heineken beer bottle. Police said that Ruiz then fled the scene.
Witnesses told police that Ruiz had gone into the business to hide in the bathroom at the Sixth Avenue location and when police searched for him, they found him in the restroom, allegedly washing blood off his hands and face. Police said that he also threw a bloodied black polo shirt into the garbage can.
Witnesses at Il Bastardo reportedly identified Ruiz as the perpetrator using a picture the officer took.
