WOMAN ASSAULTED OUTSIDE STUY TOWN
Police arrested 44-year-old Maria Paris for assault in front of 423 East 14th Street on the Stuyvesant Town side of the street last Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Police said that Paris struck the victim in the face with an umbrella, causing pain and swelling to her right eye, as well as cuts on her nose. No further information about the dispute was available. The victim was taken to Beth Israel Hospital.
MAN ARRESTED FOR IMPERSONATION OF POLICE OFFICER, ROBBERY IN UNION SQUARE
Police arrested 39-year-old Nassor Debique at the corner of Union Square East and East 14th Street last Friday after he allegedly, while wearing a police uniform, displayed a badge to a man who was in the park taking pictures.
Debique allegedly told the man that he was a police officer and that he should be paying people in order to take their pictures and that a permit was required for him to photograph in the area. Police said that Debique then forcibly grabbed the victim’s backpack, camera and book and he allegedly searched the victim’s backpack without consent.
The suspect allegedly swung at one of the officers who was attempting to handcuff him and police said that it took the assistance of other officers to place him under arrest. Debique was charged with robbery, impersonation of a police officer, resisting arrest and harassment.
SUNGLASSES ‘THIEF’ BUSTED AFTER INCIDENTS IN STUY TOWN, FLATIRON
Police arrested 38-year-old Nelson Delgado for petit larceny last Tuesday after a string of alleged thefts of sunglasses.
Police said that Delgado entered a LensCrafters at 150 Fifth Avenue and East 20th Street on July 25 and allegedly stole sunglasses from the shelves. Police said that he also took sunglasses from another LensCrafters location at 288 First Avenue in Suyvesant Town on July 17. He allegedly took six additional pairs of sunglasses from another LensCrafters location at an unspecified time.
Delgado was arrested after he allegedly attempted to steal property from Cohen’s Fashion Optical at 603 Sixth Avenue and 17th Street on Tuesday at 5:41 p.m. Police said that he fled the location and was detained in front of 157 West 18th Street. Delgado was also charged with possession of stolen property.
MAN ARRESTED FOR UNLICENSED DRONE SALE ON FIRST AVENUE
Police arrested 53-year-old Michael Jones for an unclassified misdemeanor at the corner of First Avenue and East 14th Street last Thursday at 3 p.m. Police said that Jones was offering a drone for sale without a DCA license.
BUST FOR FOILED CASH SNATCH IN KIPS BAY
Police arrested 47-year-old William Santiago for grand larceny in front of 501 Second Avenue (between 28th and 29th Streets) last Monday at 5:52 a.m. Santiago allegedly grabbed money from the victim’s hand. Police said that the money was immediately recovered when the victim grabbed it back from Santiago.
MAN BUSTED AFTER BREAKING ITEMS, SWIPING DRINKS AT DUANE READE
Police arrested 26-year-old Nicholas Thompson inside the Duane Reade at 71 West 23rd Street after he allegedly broke several items in the store and struck store employees.
Additionally, police said that last Monday at 6:51 a.m. in the process of breaking the items, Thompson also allegedly drank two beverages taken from the store that he didn’t pay for. Police said that though Thompson also struck two store managers, he didn’t cause any injuries. He was arrested for criminal mischief, harassment and petit larceny.
MAN ARRESTED FOR PULLING KNIFE ON EMT
Police arrested 36-year-old Ariel Rodriguez for menacing in front of 800 Sixth Avenue last Tuesday at 1 p.m. Police were responding to a call about an unconscious person at the location. Paramedics were attempting to wake Rodriguez to administer aid when he allegedly lunged at the EMT.
The EMT’s partner intervened by stepping between Rodriguez and the EMT, at which point an altercation ensued. Police said that Rodriguez pulled a knife from his backpack, causing the EMT to fear a serious physical injury. Rodriguez was also charged with aggravated harassment and weapons possession.
MEN BUSTED FOR UNION SQUARE POT DEAL
Police arrested 25-year-old Raymond McQuilla for bribery at the corner of Union Square West and East 14th Street last Wednesday at 4 p.m. Police said that McQuilla was purchasing a quantity of alleged marijuana from 22-year-old Paul Grant, who was also arrested and when police approached McQuilla, he allegedly threw the bag of pot to the ground while resisting arrest. He allegedly began flailing his arms and pushing away from the officers, refusing to be handcuffed. Police said that he also began screaming and shouting, encouraging a large group to gather around him. He was also charged with resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct.
Grant was charged with sale of and possession of marijuana.
MAN ARRESTED FOR ‘STOLEN’ MOTORBIKE
Police arrested 50-year-old Pedro Burgos for burglar’s tools at the corner of Broadway and East 22nd Street last Friday at 2:26 p.m. Police said that Burgos was riding a gas-powered motorbike north in a bike lane on a southbound one-way street, creating a hazard for cyclists and motor vehicles.
When he was stopped, he allegedly was not in possession of a New York State license to operate the motorbike. When he was searched, he was allegedly in possession of the bike’s ignition, which was removed, and a flathead screwdriver. Police said that Burgos didn’t know who the bike’s owner was. Burgos was also charged with criminal mischief.
MAN ARRESTED FOR REMOVING BIKE PARTS
Police arrested 31-year-old Anthony Dimonde for burglar’s tools and petit larceny in front of 45 West 25th Street last Tuesday at 2:31 p.m. Police said that Dimonde was casing bicycles at West 23rd Street and Sixth Avenue and he allegedly attempted to remove bike parts with a pair of pliers.
