Police Watch: Man arrested for assaulting mother, Man busted for meth and burglaries

MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULTING HIS MOTHER IN STUY TOWN APARTMENT
Police arrested a 48-year-old man for assault inside his Stuyvesant Town building last Sunday at 4 a.m. The victim told police that she got into an argument with the suspect, who is her son, when he allegedly hit her on the hand with an unknown object, causing swelling to her wrist.
Police said that the suspect, whose name is being withheld by Town & Village to protect the victim’s privacy, then punched his mother repeatedly, causing swelling to her forehead, and he allegedly bit her nose. Police said that he also turned off her breathing machine. The victim told police that her son turns off the oxygen on her breathing machine on a daily basis and she is in fear for her life. The son was also charged with endangering the vulnerable elderly.
Marynia Kruk, a spokesperson for Stuyvesant Town management, said, “StuyTown Property Services is aware of the incident. Our Public Safety team responded and notified NYPD, and as always will cooperate with their investigation as needed.”

MAN ARRESTED FOR METH, BURGLARIES
Police arrested 32-year-old Matthew Cherette for trespassing and criminal possession of a controlled substance inside 111 West 16th Street last Monday at 5:53 p.m. Police said that he was trespassing inside the building and when he was searched, was in possession of two clear plastic bags of crystal meth.
When he was arrested, police found that he was wanted in connected with three other incidents, including petit larceny and two burglaries. Police said that Cherette also took a credit card that had been mailed to a resident from the lobby area of an apartment building on January 24 and allegedly used the card to purchase gift cards at CVS. Police said that he also removed an envelope containing cash from a hotel room. He allegedly admitted to police that he had taken the envelopes and said he had a gambling problem. Police said that he also identified himself on surveillance video from CVS.

TEEN BUSTED FOR ASSAULT ON EAST 20TH
Police arrested a teenager for assault in front of 336 East 20th Street last Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Police said that the teen punched the victim multiple times, causing him to fall to the ground. The victim sustained a cut to his face, as well as scrapes and bruising. The name of the suspect is being withheld due to his age.

MAN BUSTED FOR SELLING POT IN FRONT OF STUY TOWN BUILDING
Police arrested 28-year-old Jarelle Branford for the sale of and possession of marijuana in front of 270 First Avenue last Wednesday at 4:48 p.m. Police said that Branford sold alleged marijuana to an undercover officer, and he was also in possession of alleged marijuana.

MAN BUSTED FOR POT AT BROADWAY AND WEST 28TH
Police arrested 33-year-old Kajole Koonce for the sale of and possession of marijuana at the corner of Broadway and West 28th Street last Wednesday at 10:22 a.m. Police said that Koonce was attempting to sell a bag of alleged marijuana for cash and when he was stopped, he was allegedly in possession of 10 zip lock bags of marijuana in one jacket pocket with six bags in another, as well as an alleged marijuana joint in his backpack.

MAN BUSTED FOR ASSAULT ON SECOND AVE.
Police arrested 59-year-old Gilbert Caban for assault in front of Paddy Reilly’s bar at 519 Second Avenue last Thursday. Police said that Caban grabbed the victim by the neck and proceeded to punch him in the head, causing a cut to the left side of the victim’s forehead. No further information was available about what started the dispute. Caban was arrested at 10:20 a.m.

MEN ARRESTED FOR THEFT ON SECOND AVENUE
Police arrested two men for grand larceny inside 390 Second Avenue last Wednesday at 9:46 p.m. Police said that 18-year-old Jalahni Reddick and 23-year-old Larry Brand were working together to steal items from the store, which they allegedly hid inside black garbage bags. Police said that Brand was also in possession of two forged credit cards and he was additionally charged with forgery. It was unclear which store the incident took place in.

MEN ARRESTED FOR XANAX IN UNION SQUARE
Police arrested 55-year-old James Smith and 42-year-old Troy West for sale of a controlled substance at the corner of Union Square East and East 16th Street last Thursday at 3:55 p.m. Police said that West and Smith sold alleged Xanax to an undercover detective.

MAN BUSTED FOR BUYING POT ON BROADWAY
Police arrested 44-year-old Derek Story for possession of marijuana at the corner of Broadway and West 29th Street last Thursday at 6:44 p.m. Police said that Story was seen buying a bag of pot from a dealer who wasn’t arrested and when he was searched, he was in possession of two bags of alleged marijuana.

TEEN PICKPOCKET BUSTED ON EAST 16TH
Police arrested a teenager for allegedly snatching a phone last Friday afternoon in front of 109 East 16th Street. The victim told police that the teen reached inside his pants pocket to get his iPhone 7.

WOMAN BUSTED FOR ‘DRUNK’ DRIVING ON FDR
Police arrested 32-year-old Sharifa McKenley for intoxicated driving at the corner of the FDR and East 23rd Street last Saturday at 4:18 p.m. Police said that McKenley was driving East on East 23rd Street from First Avenue and she allegedly swerved repeatedly from the right lane to the left. When she was stopped, she allegedly had bloodshot, watery eyes, a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and slurred speech.

  1. You are trying to protect the identity of a POS who attacked his mother? Since the T&V is disclosing information that was given by the police to them, I would advise that everyone visit the crime blotter for the 13th precinct, where the information is bound to be. Maybe I will even post the name.
