Police Watch: Homeless man stabbed in Union Square, Man wanted for burglaries on West 14th

HOMELESS MAN STABBED IN UNION SQUARE PARK
A homeless man was stabbed by a group of men in Union Square Park early Monday morning, DNAinfo reported. Police said that the 39-year-old homeless man was arguing with the men near East 14th Street and Union Square East around 3:30 a.m. when they stabbed the victim in the chest and fled. It wasn’t immediately clear what the argument was about or how many people were involved, but no arrests were made at the time of the incident.

MAN WANTED FOR MULTIPLE BURGLARIES ON WEST 14TH STREET
Police are looking for a man wanted in connection with a number of burglaries at multiple businesses inside 154 West 14th Street in the West Village earlier this summer. Police said that the suspect entered the offices of Grove Atlantic on Wednesday, July 26 around 1:33 a.m., reportedly getting in by forcing open the front door. Once inside, he stole four laptops.
The second incident occurred on Saturday, August 5 around 10 p.m. when the suspect entered Atelier Esthetique by forcing open the door. He also allegedly forced open the register and took $300.
The man was described as Hispanic and was last seen wearing a t-shirt and shorts. Assault suspect

MAN WANTED FOR SLASHING ON 29TH STREET
Police are looking for the man responsible for an assault that took place in front of 158 West 29th Street near Seventh Avenue last Thursday around 5:20 p.m. Police said that the suspect approached the 27-year-old victim from in between two parked cars and slashed him repeatedly in the face, arms and back. The victim suffered a number of cuts and was taken to an area hospital in serious but stable condition while the suspect fled south on Seventh Avenue. The suspect is described as a black man, 25 to 30 years old, 6’6” with a slim build and was last seen wearing a blue shirt, blue sweatpants, red sneakers and wore black gloves.

MAN ARRESTED FOR BROADWAY ‘BOMB SCARE’
Police arrested 32-year-old Berhane Wilson for reckless endangerment inside 1140 Broadway last Thursday at 9:08 p.m. Police said that Wilson knowingly left an unknown electrical device locked to a table and plugged into an outlet at the location. Police said that the device caused public panic and alarm, which led to a response from the bomb squad, leading to the evacuation of the building between 25th and 26th Streets. No further information was available about what the device actually was.

FIRST AVE. CVS EMPLOYEE ASSAULTED
Police arrested two people after one of them allegedly assaulted an employee at the CVS at 239 First Avenue and the other allegedly threw an object at the store’s door, breaking it.
Police said last Sunday 66-year-old Saleh Alomari allegedly hit a store employee in the head with an object, causing cuts, bleeding and swelling and 24-year-old Ashanti Powell was seen striking the door. The store employee was treated at Beth Israel hospital. Police said that Powell was arrested for crimimal mischief and Alomari for assault, but no further information was available about what prompted the incident or how they knew each other.

BARTENDER ASSAULTED AFTER ASKING CUSTOMER TO PAY TAB
Police arrested 28-year-old Anthony Holder for allegedly assaulting a bartender inside the Helen Mills Theater at 137 West 26th Street. The victim told police that he got into an argument with Holder at around 4 a.m. on Friday about him not paying his tab at the bar. Police said that Holder then went behind the bar and allegedly punched the victim twice in the face.

TEENS BUSTED FOR DAMAGING CAR ON IRVING
Eighteen-year-old Jonathan Edwards and another teenager were arrested for criminal mischief at the corner of East 15th Street and Irving Place last Wednesday at 5:50 p.m. Police said that Edwards and the other teen, along with other teenagers who weren’t arrested, caused damage to a vehicle parked on the street. The victim saw part of the incident and the teens fled, but the two teens were arrested shortly after. The name of one of the teens is being withheld due to his young age.

MAN ARRESTED IN MOPED CRASH
Thirty-year-old Shafayet Hossan was arrested for an unclassified traffic misdemeanor in front of 317 East 17th Street last Monday at 10:03 p.m. Police said that Hossan got into an accident at the location with two cars. According to the two other drivers and a third-party witness, Hossan was riding a moped in the bike lane, disobeyed a steady red light and reportedly struck the two vehicles as a result. Police later discovered that Hossan allegedly had a suspended license and the moped did not have registration or insurance.

MAN BUSTED FOR SWEETGREEN BREAK ROOM THEFT
Police arrested 58-year-old James Bates for petit larceny inside the Sweetgreen at 1164 Broadway last Tuesday at 11:05 a.m. The victim told police that she left her bag inside the break room at the restaurant around 10 a.m. on an earlier date and when she returned at 3 p.m., she noticed that cash was missing from the purse. She reported the incident to the manager, who looked at surveillance video and saw Bates going through the victim’s purse around 11 a.m. and removing cash.

SENIOR DAMAGES BUS WITH CANE
Police arrested 78-year-old Charles Sanford for criminal mischief last Friday at 12:27 p.m. at the corner of Third Avenue and East 23rd Street. The bus driver told police that he was driving an MTA bus south on Third Avenue where he reportedly failed to stop for Sanford. Sanford then reportedly swung his cane, hitting the bus door and causing damage to the bus.
