Police are looking for a man who’s been scrawling swastikas and penises on doors in apartment buildings in NoMad, Chelsea and Lower Manhattan.
Police said the man began his crude graffiti spree on Sunday, November 26 at 7:30 p.m. when he strolled into a residential building on Madison Avenue and East 29th Street, went to the 48th floor and drew a swastika on two of the doors and a penis on another door. He added the tag “Max G was here” on another door.
On December 2, he drew an upside down cross on an elevator door and several swastikas and penises on different apartment doors in a building within the vicinity of Pine Street and Cedar Street. He added his tag on another door and fled.
On Monday, December 18, he did roughly the same thing at a building within the vicinity of North Moore Street and Greenwich Street.
The next day, he drew a swastika on three different apartment doors and in the stairwell of the 20th floor, and penises on six apartment doors at 542 West 29th Street.
On, December 23, he went to the 11th floor of 545 West 23rd Street and proceeded to do pretty much the same thing.
Police have classified the incidents as criminal mischief. However, the investigation is being conducted by the Hate Crimes Task Force.
