Police Watch: Teen busted for phone-snatching, Man arrested for assault

TEEN ARRESTED FOR SNATCHING PHONE
Police arrested a teenager for petit larceny in front of 71 Lexington Avenue last Wednesday at 12:07 a.m. The victim told police that the teen approached him on the street and asked to use his cell phone so that he could call his mom. Once the victim handed the teen his phone, the suspect reportedly ran off with the device. Police said that the teen is a student at Metropolitan High School. The teen’s name is being withheld due to his young age.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT AT 230 FIFTH
Police arrested a 27-year-old man last Sunday at 3:13 a.m. inside the bar 230 Fifth at 230 Fifth Avenue after a witness told police that he hit the victim in the back of the head with a beer bottle. The blow caused a cut on the victim’s head.
Police arrested Lirim Sopi for the alleged assault as well as possession of a controlled substance he allegedly had on him.

WOMAN ASSAULTED AT TAJ LOUNGE
Police arrested a 25-year-old woman for assault inside Taj Lounge at 48 West 21st Street last Sunday at 7 p.m. The victim told police that when she was attempting to get her coat from the coat check, Zenia Williams allegedly punched her and someone else in the face, causing an injury to both of their noses.

SENIOR ARRESTED FOR SHATTERING ATM WINDOW
Police arrested a 65-year-old man for criminal mischief inside the Bank of America ATM at 186 Fifth Avenue last Wednesday at 10:52 p.m. Rodney Rollins went into the location to get money from the ATM but when the machine wouldn’t give him back his card, he allegedly grabbed a garbage can and threw it through a window, causing the glass to shatter.

MAN ARRESTED FOR SELLING POT
Police arrested 35-year-old Jeffrey Jean for the sale of marijuana and possession of marijuana in front of 7 East 14th Street last Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. Police said that Jean sold a quantity of marijuana to an undercover officer and was in possession of additional alleged marijuana when he was searched.

B&N EMPLOYEE BUSTED FOR GIFT CARD ‘THEFTS’
Police arrested a 22-year-old Barnes & Noble employee last Thursday for allegedly stealing electronic gift cards from the store at 33 East 17th Street through customer transactions. Police said that Caleb De Leon also used his employee discount on multiple transactions without telling customers and then allegedly purchased the gift card to cover the discount value.

DRUG SALE ARRESTS ON SECOND AVENUE
Police arrested 39-year-old Roy John and 26-year-old Jeremy Napoleon for the alleged sale of a controlled substance at the corner of Second Avenue and East 24th Street last Thursday at 7:47 a.m. Police said that John sold a quantity of Alprazolam to an undercover office and Napoleon allegedly sold Clonazepam to an undercover officer.

MAN NABBED FOR THEFT FROM DELIVERY TRUCK
Police arrested a 41-year-old man for alleged possession of burglar’s tools, petit larceny and possession of stolen property in front of 39 West 19th Street last Tuesday at 11:09 a.m. Police said that Robert Valdivieso was casing a delivery truck that was parked at the northwest corner of West 19th Street and Fifth Avenue when he allegedly removed a hand truck from the back of the delivery truck. When he was stopped by police, officers found that he was allegedly in possession of stolen property.

MAN ARRESTED FOR SLEEPING INSIDE STRAUS HOUSES HALLWAY
Police arrested a 46-year-old man for criminal trespass inside 224 East 28th Street last Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. Police said that the man was sleeping inside the building hallway where there were signs posted stating that all NYCHA premises are only for the use of residents, guests and those with legitimate business in the building and the suspect allegedly did not have permission to be in the building.
