Police Watch: Man arrested for damaging cars, Car break-in on E. 28th

MAN CHARGED WITH DAMAGING CARS WITH PIPE IN KIPS BAY
Police arrested 26-year-old Damien Emory on Monday after he allegedly walked through traffic, hitting multiple vehicles — which all had drivers in them at the time — with a metal pipe.
Police said this caused damage to the cars. He was charged with alleged criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and weapons possession at the corner of East 24th Street and First Avenue at 4 p.m. None of the drivers sustained any injuries.

MAN ARRESTED FOR BREAKING INTO CAR ON EAST 28TH
Police arrested 28-year-old Gaber Algalal last Tuesday at 5 a.m. for allegedly using a metal object to try to break into a vehicle parked in front of 23 East 28th Street at 5:24 a.m.
Police said they witnessed this when they went to the scene to respond to a call about an unrelated incident and saw that there was damage to the driver’s side door and scratches on the driver’s side window. Algalal was charged with criminal mischief and possession of burglar’s tools.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ROBBERY IN DOMESTIC INCIDENT
Police arrested a 50-year-old man for robbery at the corner of Second Avenue and East 14th Street last Wednesday at 7:28 p.m. The victim told police that while she was driving with the suspect, who was sitting in the passenger’s seat, they got into an argument over money. She said that the suspect became irate and kicked her in the hand, causing an injury. She told police that the man also forcibly took her credit cards and made four unauthorized purchases on one of the cards. When she and the suspect returned to their home, he allegedly damaged a lamp and threw other items all over the apartment before leaving. The victim then went to the precinct to report the incident and the suspect was stopped at Second Avenue and East 14th Street, where he was identified by the victim and arrested. Police said that he was also in possession of marijuana. The suspect was also charged with assault, criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance. The name of the suspect is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

MAN ARRESTED FOR PUSHING PAIR DOWN STAIRS AT IRVING PLACE BAR
Police arrested 35-year-old Zohair Benchakroun for assault outside the bar Dear Irving at 55 Irving Place last Thursday at 12:49 a.m. Police said that Benchakroun pushed the victim down the flight of stairs in front of the building, causing him to land on his left hip and causing substantial pain. Police said that Benchakroun pushed the victim from the top of the landing, which he had started walking down, but when the suspect pushed him, the victim knocked into his friend, causing her to fall down the stairs as well and land on her forearm, causing substantial pain. Benchakroun was also charged with reckless endangerment.

MAN BUSTED FOR ‘DRUGS’ OUTSIDE VA
Police arrested 56-year-old John Myers for possession of a controlled substance in front of the VA Medical Center at 423 East 23rd Street last Tuesday at 11:10 a.m. Police said that Myers bought a quantity of a controlled substance from another person who was arrested on four separate occasions.

‘RECKLESS’ DRIVER ARRESTED AT WEST 25TH AND BROADWAY
Police arrested 25-year-old Robert Clifford for alleged reckless endangerment last Monday at 9:29 p.m. at the corner of West 25th Street and Broadway. Police said that Clifford was driving a Dodge Charger at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic and allegedly not stopping for police, creating a risk of physical injury. He was also charged with speeding and reckless driving.

‘DRUNK’ DRIVING ARREST AT THIRD AND EAST 15TH
Police arrested 24-year-old Hao Chen for alleged intoxicated driving at the corner of Third Avenue and East 15th Street last Thursday at 1:54 a.m. Police said that Chen was involved in a motor vehicle accident with another car and when police arrived, Chen was allegedly lying against the steering wheel and had a strong odor of alcohol on him. Police said that he also had slurred speech and was staggering when he walked.

MAN CHARGED FOR HEROIN IN KIPS BAY
Police arrested 35-year-old Lawrence Bluswicz for alleged possession of a controlled substance at the corner of Park Avenue South and East 29th Street last Wednesday at 4:10 p.m. Police said that Bluswicz was found to be in possession of heroin on a public sidewalk and when he was searched, he was allegedly also in possession of a pipe.

THREE ARRESTED FOR ‘DRUGS’ ON EAST 28TH
Thirty-year-old Aaron Starnes, 20-year-old Robyn Hartz and 58-year-old Lance Jones were arrested for possession of a controlled substance in front of 14 East 28th Street last Friday at 6:35 a.m. Police said that Starnes and Hartz were found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia containing cocaine residue. Jones was allegedly in possession of crystal methamphetamine, a glass vial with alleged cocaine residue and a pipe with alleged marijuana residue. Police said that Jones resisted arrest by flailing his arms and refusing to be handcuffed.

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR PULLING FIRE ALARM AT NIGHTCLUB
Police arrested 22-year-old Stephania Jackson for reckless endangerment at Taj Lounge at 48 West 21st Street last Saturday at 1:19 a.m. Police said that Jackson pulled the fire alarm in a crowded nightclub when there was no threat of a fire, causing patrons to leave the club out of fear and causing the FDNY to respond and shut off the alarm.

MAN ARRESTED FOR DAMAGING CAR
Police arrested 44-year-old James Mitchell for criminal mischief in front of 202 East 18th Street last Sunday at 9:48 a.m. Police said that Mitchell threw a rock at the victim’s car, breaking the rear window and causing damage to the vehicle.
