Homeless man charged with rape of homeless woman in Kips Bay

By Maria Rocha-Buschel

Police arrested a homeless man for allegedly raping and robbing a homeless woman behind a building in Kips Bay early last Tuesday. Police said that 54-year-old Karl Dozier raped the 46-year-old woman outside 362 Third Avenue, which is home to a pinball arcade, after they got into an argument at around 4:45 a.m.

According to a criminal complaint, Dozier punched the victim in the head and face multiple times, got on top of her while continuing to hit her and then raped her.

After he was arrested, Dozier allegedly told police that he hit the victim repeatedly because she was “being annoying” and that in addition to hitting her with his fists, also reportedly bashed her with a lead pipe.

The victim told police that when she woke up next to Dozier, she was missing $60. She called 911 and was treated at the hospital for injuries to her head and face. Dozier was arrested at 10:50 a.m. at the corner of Lexington Avenue and East 25th Street after officers searched the area for him.

Dozier was charged with rape and robbery. An attorney for Dozier did not respond to a request for comment by T&V’s press time.

  1. I live 3 blocks from there. Use to be a decent, NON VIOLENT neighborhood until they put those shelters on First Avenue in the 20’s. Kips Bay. Now you can’t even go out at night or in the early morning hours. WTF????
