Police Watch: Man charged with assaulting officers, Office burglary in Flatiron

MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING TWO OFFICERS AT BELLEVUE
Police arrested 20-year-old Abdul Sweleh for allegedly assaulting officers inside Bellevue Hospital on Monday, January 7 at 9:25 p.m. Police said that Sweleh punched two peace officers who were attempting to subdue him. Sweleh allegedly punched one of the victims in the face, causing pain and swelling, and caused a possible bone fracture after allegedly punching the other officer in the face.

MAN ALLEGEDLY BURGLARIZED OFFICE IN FLATIRON
Police arrested 32-year-old Isaac Logan for alleged burglaries inside 79 Fifth Avenue that took place last year.

Police said that Logan entered the offices of Fahrenheit 212 at the location while the business was closed and allegedly stole a MacBook on August 11, 2018 around 5 p.m. Police said that Logan could be seen on surveillance video removing two MacBooks from the office on November 22, 2018 at 4:16 p.m.

Logan was also charged with criminal trespass because he was allegedly inside the office on November 14, 2018 at 5 p.m. without permission.

Police said that Logan stayed at a friend’s apartment on West 14th Street on November 16, 2018 and the friend told police that he later noticed unauthorized charges on his credit card. Police said that there is surveillance footage of Logan allegedly using the credit card.

Logan was arrested inside the 13th Precinct on Tuesday, January 8 at 11:04 a.m.

MAN SLASHED IN NOMAD
Police arrested 35-year-old Pablo Mendez for an alleged assault inside Cafe 28 at 245 Fifth Avenue on Wednesday, January 9 at 2:59 a.m. The victim told police that he got into an argument with Mendez that escalated to the point that Mendez allegedly slashed the victim across the face with a broken bottle. Police said that the victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated with approximately 50 stitches.

MAN ACCUSED OF ASSAULT IN POPEYE’S
Police arrested 34-year-old Lawrence Gendreau at the corner of Second Avenue and East 23rd Street on Tuesday, January 8 at 11:14 p.m. for an alleged assault. Police said that while inside the Popeye’s restaurant at 75 Lexington Avenue, Gendreau hit the victim with a chair, causing an injury to her right knee. The victim said that Gendreau was arguing with the staff about food.

WOMAN ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTED SENIOR AT KENMORE HALL
Police arrested 41-year-old Tracy Barber for an alleged assault that took place inside Kenmore Hall at 145 East 23rd Street on Wednesday, January 9 at 11:21 p.m. Police said that Barber went into the 71-year-old victim’s apartment and allegedly pushed him to the ground, causing an injury. Upon further investigation, police found that the victim sustained a punctured lung and fractured hip.

Police said that Barber and the victim knew each other and both live at Kenmore.

MAN CHARGED WITH STEALING FROM CONSTRUCTION SITE
Police arrested 55-year-old Luis Samuel for an alleged theft from 250 Fifth Avenue on Thursday, January 10 at 1:25 a.m. Police said that Samuel was observed by security removing steel girders from a dumpster in front of a construction site and putting them into a U-Haul. Police said that Samuel did not have permission to remove the girders. Samuel was charged with petit larceny and theft.

MAN ACCUSED OF BREAKING INTO CAR
Police arrested 50-year-old Eugene Cox for alleged criminal mischief in front of 137 West 25th Street near the Bowery Residents’ Committee on Thursday, January 10 at 4:17 a.m. When police were responding to a call about criminal mischief to a vehicle at the location, Department of Homeless Services police told officers that they had seen Cox break the window of the vehicle. DHS police approached the vehicle and found that Cox was allegedly inside.
