DRIVER ALLEGEDLY FLED SCENE OF ACCIDENT
Police arrested 33-year-old Raechard White for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident. The victim told police that he was driving east on East 23rd Street with a green light when another vehicle driving north on Park Avenue South went through the red light, striking his vehicle. The victim said that the driver of the vehicle that hit him got out of the car and ran into the subway.
Police were unable to find him at the time, but White had allegedly left a wallet in the vehicle with his name on it and he was arrested inside the 13th Precinct on Tuesday, January 15 at 9 a.m. White was also charged with being an unlicensed operator. Police said that the victim suffered injuries to his ribs and was taken to Bellevue Hospital.
MAN CHARGED WITH OFFICE BURGLARY
Police arrested 20-year-old Jose Gutierrez for alleged burglaries inside 55 West 21st Street last summer. Police said that Gutierrez could be seen on video surveillance after hours while the office was closed for business and was allegedly stealing equipment. Police said that Gutierrez was inside the office on July 18, 2018, and another date later in the month.
Gutierrez was charged with burglary inside the 13th Precinct on Monday, January 14.
WOMAN ALLEGEDLY SPAT IN OFFICER’S FACE AT BETH ISRAEL
Nineteen-year-old Ginarys Valentin was arrested for alleged aggravated harassment and criminal trespass inside Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital at 281 First Avenue on Friday, January 18 at 4:59 p.m. Police said that Valentin was fighting with hospital staff because she was being discharged. An officer and security guard at the hospital escorted her outside and said that she was discharged so she couldn’t come back inside but she allegedly ignored the order and attempted to go back into the hospital multiple times. Police said that she also spat in the police officer’s face.
PHONE THEFT SUSPECT CONNECTED TO PRIOR SHOPLIFTING INCIDENTS
Police arrested 57-year-old Nicholas Rhodes for allegedly stealing a phone at the corner of Mount Carmel Place and East 28th Street on Monday, January 14 at 5:21 p.m. The victim told police that someone had taken his phone and a witness told the officer that he saw Rhodes take it from his jacket pocket. When police searched Rhodes, they found that he was allegedly in possession of the victim’s property.
After Rhodes was arrested, he was charged in connection with additional burglaries from earlier this year that took place at Duane Reade. Police said that Rhodes removed makeup from the Duane Reade at 330 East 23rd Street on Saturday, January 5 at 8:38 p.m. and left the store without paying, and he allegedly returned the following day at 8:40 a.m. and removed other items that police said he concealed in his pants before he left without paying. Rhodes was charged with burglary because he was issued a “no trespass” affidavit on August 10, 2018, during an arrest and police said that he was warned not to go inside any Duane Reade or Walgreens locations permanently.
MAN ARRESTED FOR THEFT FROM BUFFALO EXCHANGE
Police arrested 39-year-old Clayton Maldonado for allegedly swiping a backpack that was left unattended at the Buffalo Exchange clothing store at 114 West 26th Street. Police said that Maldonado took the backpack, which contained a pair of shoes and a pair of jeans on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, around 7:30 p.m. Maldonado was arrested inside the 13th precinct on Tuesday, January 15 at 11:30 a.m. and was charged with petit larceny.
MAN ALLEGEDLY STOLE FROM UNION SQUARE NEW YORK SPORTS CLUB LOCKERS
Sixty-year-old Yousef Rahali was arrested for an alleged theft from the New York Sports Club at 10 Irving Place on Thursday, January 3. Police said that Rahali took credit cards that didn’t belong to him from someone inside the gym and later allegedly used the cards at two locations at 16 St. Mark’s Place and a 7-Eleven at 813 Broadway.
Rahali was charged with grand larceny inside the 13th Precinct on Tuesday, January 15 at 11:30 a.m.
MEN NABBED FOR ATTEMPTED BIKE THEFT
Police arrested 38-year-old Douglas Zimbler and 34-year-old Anthony Ricciardelli for allegedly attempting to steal bicycles from the corner of Third Avenue and East 15th Street on Tuesday, January 15 at 12:22 p.m. A 911 caller told police that the two men were at the corner attempting to remove a bicycle from the location and when police arrived, they found that Zimbler and Ricciardelli were both in possession of alleged burglar’s tools commonly used to steal bicycles. Police said that both men were in possession of various alleged controlled substances, and Ricciardelli was also allegedly in possession of stolen credit cards and unlawful possession of brass knuckles.
Zimbler was charged with burglar’s tools, petit larceny, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. Ricciardelli was charged with weapons possession, possession of stolen property, burglar’s tools, petit larceny, grand larceny and possession of a controlled substance.
DRIVER ARRESTED AFTER ACCIDENT IN UNION SQUARE
Police arrested 23-year-old Thomas Malik for alleged drunk driving at the corner of East 17th Street and Park Avenue South on Thursday, January 17 at 5:07 a.m. Police were responding to a motor vehicle accident at the scene and a witness told police that Malik was behind the wheel of the car when the vehicle collided with the traffic signal at the northwest corner of Park Avenue South and East 28th Street. When police arrived at the scene, the vehicle was unoccupied and the engine was turned off, with the keys in the center console. Police stopped Malik nearby and the witness identified him as the driver. Police said that Malik had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath as well as bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and unsteady balance. Malik was charged with intoxicated driving and an unclassified traffic infraction.
MAN ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED DINE-AND-DITCH
Police arrested 46-year-old Joseph McLaughlin for alleged theft of services inside Pete’s Tavern at 129 East 18th Street on Thursday, January 17 at 1:02 p.m. McLaughlin allegedly entered the restaurant and received service but police said that he attempted to leave without paying.
MAN ARRESTED FOR STEALING LAPTOP FROM EX-GIRLFRIEND AT 230 FIFTH
Police arrested a 36-year-old man for an alleged theft from 230 Fifth Rooftop Bar at 230 Fifth Avenue on Friday, January 18 at 9:27 p.m. The victim told police that she and the suspect, her ex-boyfriend, got into an argument at the bar. She said that the suspect became upset and allegedly grabbed her laptop, phone and wallet with debit and credit cards in it. Police said that he fled south on Fifth Avenue, then went west on West 26th Street. Police searched the area and found him at the corner of Madison Avenue and East 29th Street. The suspect was charged with grand larceny, possession of stolen property and possession of marijuana. After the suspect was charged at the precinct, the victim’s property was recovered and returned to her. The name of the suspect is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
