Police Watch: Man arrested for phone theft, ACS teen nabbed for beatdown

MAN CHARGED WITH PHONE THEFT AFTER BEING CHASED DOWN BY VICTIM
Police arrested 43-year-old Maitreya One for an alleged theft from the Fat Buddha bar at 212 Avenue A between 13th and 14th Streets on Saturday, February 9 at 11:44 p.m. The victim told police that she put her phone on a table in the bar and turned her back to it, and when she turned back around, the phone was missing. She said that she used the Find My iPhone app and it pinged at the McDonald’s at 404 East 14th Street. She said that she pinged her phone again while walking around nearby and heard it coming from an unknown man. She said that she confronted the man and asked for the phone back, which he refused. The victim said that she called 911 and followed the man to East 17th Street and Second Avenue, where he was arrested. When the suspect was taken into custody, the victim’s phone was recovered from his front right jacket pocket. One was arrested at the corner of Second Avenue and East 17th Street on Sunday, February 10 at 12:52 a.m. and was charged with petit larceny and possession of stolen property.

ACS TEEN NABBED FOR BEATDOWN OF ANOTHER TEEN
Police arrested a teenager for an alleged assault that took place in front of 130 East 29th Street on November 20, 2018, at 10:30 p.m. The victim told police that the suspect punched him numerous times in the face, causing swelling and bruising to both cheeks and his right eye. Police said that the suspect and the victim know each other because they both live in the Administration for Children’s Services facility at 492 First Avenue. The teen was arrested on Friday, February 8 at 2 a.m. inside the 13th precinct.

SENIOR ARRESTED ON 14TH STREET FOR PREVIOUS ALLEGED LEWDNESS INCIDENTS
Police arrested 64-year-old Jerry Jack for alleged public lewdness on Wednesday, February 6 at 9:21 p.m. in front of 101 East 14th Street. Police said that Jack was seen masturbating in public at the corner of East Broadway and Hudson Street in Chinatown on November 24, 2018, at 7:25 p.m. and at the corner of East 33rd Street and Park Avenue in Midtown on October 15, 2018, at noon. Jack was arrested on East 14th Street because officers recognized him from the previous incidents.

MAN CHARGED WITH MENACING AFTER CAR CRASH
Police arrested 19-year-old Tyrek Mitchell for alleged menacing at the corner of East 23rd Street and Madison Avenue on Wednesday, February 6 at 3:23 p.m. Police said that Mitchell was involved in a motor vehicle collision and got out of his car, allegedly approaching the other vehicle while banging his closed fists on the glass windows and yelling. Police said that he then went back to his own vehicle and grabbed a hammer from his trunk and allegedly raised the hammer as if he were going to hit the other car, although police said that he didn’t hit the vehicle with the hammer. Mitchell was also charged with weapons possession.

MAN ALLEGEDLY STOLE CASH FROM BROW THREADING SALON
Police arrested 22-year-old Rahul Sai inside Unique Threading Salon at 25 West 23rd Street on Monday, February 4 at 5:55 p.m. for an alleged theft that took place there previously. The victim told police that more than $1,000 in cash was removed from the reception desk drawer by Sai without permission on Saturday, February 2 at 6 p.m. Police did not have further information about Sai’s relationship with the business.

MEN ACCUSED OF BREAKING VICTIM’S JAW IN FIGHT
Police arrested 28-year-old Daqwan Smith and 29-year-old Alexander Salzmann for an alleged assault that took place in front of 212 Fifth Avenue on December 29, 2018, around 4 a.m. Police said that Smith and Salzman got into a fight with a man in his 30s and allegedly broke his jaw. Smith and Salzman were arrested on Wednesday, February 6 at 9 a.m. inside the 13th Precinct.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED DAMAGE AT MAVE HOTEL
Police arrested 20-year-old Niaire Myrick for alleged criminal mischief inside the Mave Hotel at 62 Madison Avenue on Thursday, February 7 at 4:15 a.m. Police said that Myrick got into an argument with security in the hotel lobby previously that night in which he allegedly threw a chair across the hall. Myrick then went up the stairs while frustrated and reportedly struck emergency fire telephones and fire extinguisher holders intentionally, breaking them and causing damage. Police arrived at the scene because of the disturbance and went to the room where Myrick lives, but he wasn’t there. Officers heard noise coming from a nearby room so they knocked on the door and Myrick answered, identifying himself, and he was subsequently arrested.

MEN CHARGED WITH SHOPLIFTING AT WALGREENS
Police arrested three men for allegedly shoplifting inside the Walgreens at 33 East 23rd Street on Tuesday, February 5 at 6:09 a.m. Police said that 49-year-old Rodney Brown, 26-year-old Barry Campbell and a 26-year-old woman and took items off the rack and left without paying. The three men allegedly fled the location and were caught by police shortly after. The three suspects were charged with petit larceny. Brown was also charged with grand larceny and possession of stolen property because he was allegedly in possession of a credit card that didn’t belong to him and police said that he attempted to use the card at a 7-Eleven and in a taxi earlier the same day. Campbell, who was also charged with impersonation, allegedly gave a fake identity when he was arrested. Police said that a woman was also with the group but was not arrested.
