MAN BUSTED FOR STUY TOWN BURGLARY
Police arrested 22-year-old Joel Torrens for an alleged burglary that occurred inside 315 Avenue C on Sunday, October 6 around noon. Police said that one of the roommates left the apartment and shortly after, another roommate who was still inside heard noises in the apartment hallway. When she went to check what it was, she saw Torrens allegedly standing in the hallway, and he reportedly took credit cards and jewelry from the apartment before fleeing. Police said that Torrens does not live in the building but no further information was available about how he got inside the building or the apartment itself. Torrens was charged inside the 13th precinct on Monday, October 7 at 12:15 p.m.
MAN BUSTED FOR BODEGA ROBBERY
Police arrested 50-year-old Edward Abel for an alleged robbery from a bodega at 315 First Avenue on April 23 at 10:50 p.m. A worker at the bodega said that Abel was throwing things inside the store, striking the victim on the arm, and he allegedly left the bodega with beer that he hadn’t paid for. Abel was ultimately arrested for the robbery on Thursday, October 10 at 8 a.m. inside the 13th precinct.
MAN ARRESTED FOR ROBBERY FROM 14TH ST. CAFE
Police arrested 32-year-old Gerard Torrez for an alleged robbery inside LRoom Cafe at 41 West 14th Street on Thursday, October 10 at 1:51 p.m.
The victim told police that Torrez went inside the business and concealed items inside a black bag without paying, then left the store. Police said the victim followed Torrez across the street and asked for the property back when Torrez allegedly said, “Step back, I have a gun.” When the victim attempted to grab the property back from Torres, he allegedly dragged the victim on the ground.
Someone flagged down a traffic agent for additional enforcement and Torrez was ultimately caught at the northeast corner of West 13th Street and Sixth Avenue.
Police said that the property was damaged but recovered by the victim, and the victim wasn’t injured during the incident.
Torrez was also charged with criminal mischief.
WOMAN RANDOMLY ASSAULTED IN UNION SQUARE
Police arrested 30-year-old Fernando Flores for an alleged assault in Union Square Park at Union Square West and East 16th Street on Saturday, October 12 at 2:12 p.m. The victim told police that she was walking at the farmer’s market in Union Square Park when she was hit multiple times in the back of the head. She said that she heard someone call her name and as she was turning around, a man she didn’t know punched her in the back of the head multiple times, causing substantial pain, bruising and swelling. Witness pointed out Flores as the person who hit the victim. The victim told police that she does not know Flores.
MAN NABBED FOR THEFT AT CHELSEA GYM
Police arrested 34-year-old Alexander Albani for possession of a controlled substance, impersonation and criminal trespass inside a gym at 119 West 23rd Street on Tuesday, October 8 at 2 p.m. Police said that Albani also entered and remained inside the gym without permission and once inside, was recognized by someone as a person wanted in connection with a previous theft that occurred there. Police said that Albani used a false identity to get inside and when he was searched, he was allegedly in possession of a controlled substance.
After he was arrested, he was charged in connection with an alleged theft from the gym on June 22 between 4 and 5 p.m. The victim left her wallet in a locker at the gym and Albani allegedly took and used the credit cards. He was also charged with grand larceny.
MAN BUSTED FOR THEFT FROM PURSE
Police arrested 39-year-old Emine Belghiti for an alleged theft from Hillstone Restaurant at 378 Park Avenue South on February 6 around 6 p.m. The victim told police that she left her purse unattended while she was at the restaurant and when she returned, she realized that her wallet was missing and there were later unknown charges on her credit card. Belghiti was charged with grand larceny on Tuesday, October 8 at 5:35 p.m. inside the 13th precinct.
MAN ARRESTED FOR SUSPENDED LICENSE AFTER COLLISION
Police arrested 20-year-old Kevin Fermine for a traffic misdemeanor after a car collision in front of 307 East 14th Street on Wednesday, October 9 at 4:21 a.m. Police were responding to the location because of the collision and upon further investigation, found that Fermine was allegedly driving with a suspended license.
WOMEN ARRESTED FOR FIGHT AT GOOD SHEPHERD
Police arrested 20-year-old Christine Sanabrie and 19-year-old Chanel Stagers for an alleged fight that occurred inside Good Shepherd Services at 337 East 17th Street on Wednesday at 3:17 p.m. Police said that Sanabrie provoked a fight with Stagers, punching and scratching her in the face, while Stagers also punched Sanabrie. The women told police that they used to be friends but aren’t any longer, and they got into an argument that turned physical.
FIGHT ON EAST 23RD STREET
Police arrested 22-year-old Sean Orbego and 30-year-old Raphael Colon for assault in front of 127 East 23rd Street on Wednesday, October 9 at 10:37 p.m. Police said that Orbego and Colon got into a fight, each allegedly punching the other in the face, causing pain, bruising and cuts.
WOMAN ARRESTED FOR SHOPLIFTING
Police arrested 42-year-old Kristen Dias for an alleged theft from 620 Sixth Avenue on Friday, October 11 at 5:04 p.m. Police said that Dias removed items from the shelves and allegedly concealed them in her bag before she left without paying for the items.
MAN BUSTED FOR TRESPASSING
Police arrested 26-year-old Chester Derlus for alleged criminal trespass inside 150 West 28th Street on Saturday, October 12 at 2:38 p.m. Police said that Derlus knowingly and unlawfully entered the commercial building without permission to be there, and was allegedly seen walking around on different floors without permission to be there. Derelus was arrested on the 18th floor.
MAN NABBED FOR THEFT FROM PARAGON SPORTS
Police arrested 63-year-old Todd McDowel for an alleged theft from Paragon Sports at 867 Broadway on Saturday, October 12 at 3:06 p.m. A witness told police that McDowel went inside the store and removed property from the shelves, then went inside the dressing room. The witness then saw McDowel leave the dressing room, seemingly without the items, and left the store, but when he was stopped by a security guard, stolen items were allegedly discovered inside his backpack.
McDowel was charged with petit larceny and possession of stolen property.
PAIR BUSTED FOR THEFT
Police arrested 68-year-old Sonia Robinson and 62-year-old Richard Staner for an alleged theft in front of 861 Broadway on Tuesday, October 8 at 3:51 p.m. Police said that Robinson and Staner were working together and removed items from a nearby store before they left without paying. Robinson and Staner were charged with petit larceny and possession of stolen property.
WOMAN ARRESTED FOR GOING IN CAR, EATING PEANUTS
Police arrested a 62-year-old woman for an alleged theft in front of 127 West 25th Street on Wednesday, October 9 at 2:13 a.m. Police said that Miner went inside a car that did not belong to her, smoked cigarettes and ate a package of peanuts. Department of Homeless Services police spotted the woman inside the vehicle and she was arrested shortly after. She was charged with petit larceny and possession of stolen property.
