TWO ARRESTED FOR FIGHT AT EAST 14TH ST. BODEGA
Police arrested a store clerk and a customer after a fight inside Community Grocery and Candy at 353 East 14th Street on Saturday, February 1 at 10:08 a.m. A 28-year-old man who was arrested reportedly walked into the store to buy cigarettes with a group of people. The 69-year-old employee, who was also arrested, said that the group started arguing with store owners while the 28-year-old man said that the store owners were speaking to the group disrespectfully. Police said that the 28-year-old man went behind the counter and started fighting with the employee, causing injuries to his head. The 69-year-old man reportedly hit the other man in the head and face with a wooden sword. Both were charged with assault and the 69-year-old man was also charged with weapons possession. The 28-year-old man was taken to Beth Israel for treatment.
FIVE ARRESTED FOR ROBBERY ON FIRST AVENUE
Police arrested five people for a robbery that took place at the corner of East 15th Street and First Avenue on Thursday, January 30 at 3:29 a.m. The victim told police that he was picking up passengers at the location and the four girls got into the vehicle while being loud and disruptive, and then began to punch the driver in the head, causing cuts to his face and the top of his head. The passengers then grabbed his cell phone and fled the vehicle, but four girls matching the suspects’ description were stopped at East 17th Street and Second Avenue. The victim’s phone was recovered after the suspects were arrested. The suspects included two 18-year-olds, two 19-year-olds and a 20-year-old, who reportedly gave a false name when she was initially arrested and was also charged with impersonation.
TEEN BUSTED FOR PHONE SNATCHING
Police arrested a teenager for a theft in front of 146 West 23rd Street on Wednesday, January 29 at 7:26 p.m. The victim told police that she was walking west on West 23rd Street on the north side of the street with her phone in her hand and the suspect was walking in the opposite direction on the same side of the street. The victim said that the suspect then snatched her phone out of her hand and fled, but he was arrested shortly after. The teen was charged with grand larceny and possession of stolen property. Police said that the boy was taken into custody by the homeless outreach unit.
MAN ARRESTED FOR BREAKING WINDOW AT HOSPITAL
Police arrested a 44-year-old man for criminal mischief in front of Mount Sinai Beth Israel at 281 First Avenue on Monday, January 27 at 9:26 a.m. A witness told police that the man kicked a window outside the hospital, causing it to shatter, and the suspect then walked down the street. The witness followed the man along with an officer who was on a detail, and the suspect was arrested shortly after.
MAN NABBED FOR ASSAULT, HARASSMENT
Police arrested a 41-year-old man for assault and harassment inside 127 West 25th Street on Saturday, February 1 at 2:39 a.m. The victim told police that he and the suspect got into an argument, during which the suspect punched the victim in the face. Police said that the victim and the suspect know each other and live in the same shelter. The victim identified the suspect at the scene, and while police were trying to transport the suspect, he reportedly spat in the officer’s face. The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.
MAN ARRESTED FOR CHOKING WIFE
Police arrested a 40-year-old man for obstruction of breath on Friday, January 31 at 11 a.m. Police said that the suspect choked his wife to prevent her from breathing inside their Gramercy apartment earlier this year. The suspect was charged inside the 13th precinct.
EMPLOYEE ARRESTED FOR THEFTS AT PETCO
Police arrested a 30-year-old woman for thefts that occurred inside the Petco at 860 Broadway between October 13, 2019, and January 9, 2020. Police said that the woman took money from the cash register at the store in addition to merchandise while she was an employee there. The woman was charged with grand larceny inside the 13th precinct on Monday, January 27 at 11:10 a.m.
MAN ARRESTED FOR DRIVING STOLEN CAR
Police arrested a 26-year-old man for driving a stolen car in front of 688 Sixth Avenue on Thursday, January 30 at 4:28 p.m. Police responded to the scene because of a call about a stolen vehicle and when the suspect was stopped, police determined that the car he was driving had been stolen. The suspect was also found to be driving with a suspended license. He was charged with unauthorized use of vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle and an unclassified traffic misdemeanor.
MAN NABBED FOR RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT
Police arrested a 32-year-old man for reckless endangerment in front of 368 Third Avenue on Thursday, January 30 at 4:35 p.m. The victim told police that he got into an argument with the suspect, who then created a substantial risk of injury to the victim by pushing him and causing his face to hit a police. The victim sustained a cut to the left side of his face and escorted himself to the hospital for treatment.
MAN ARRESTED FOR RED BULL THEFT
Police arrested a 42-year-old man for a theft inside 311 East 23rd Street on Friday, January 31 at 1:42 p.m. A witness told police that on Tuesday, January 28, the suspect entered the store and removed three cases of Red Bull from an unlocked basement and left without paying for the items. The suspect was recognized when he returned a few days later and management held him there until police arrived at the scene. The suspect was charged with petit larceny and possession of stolen property.
