Police Watch: Woman arrested for package theft, Theft at Waterside Gristedes

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR STUY TOWN PACKAGE THEFT
Police arrested a 39-year-old woman on Wednesday, February 19 at 10 a.m. for a theft that occurred in 2019. Police said that the woman was seen on video removing packages from 620 East 20th Street on December 2. The woman was charged with grand larceny inside the 13th precinct. 

MAN NABBED FOR THEFT IN WATERSIDE PLAZA GRISTEDES
Police arrested a 19-year-old man for a theft from the Gristedes at 25 Waterside Plaza on Monday, February 17 at 9:43 p.m. A witness told police that the suspect, who was an employee at the store, removed items without permission and left without paying. The suspect was charged with petit larceny and possession of stolen property.

MEN BUSTED FOR SEPHORA THEFTS, ROBBERY
Police arrested an 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old man for thefts from the Sephora at 119 Fifth Avenue on Friday, February 21 at 2:56 p.m. Officers said that they were investigating a grand larceny pattern in Sephora stores throughout the city when a group of 10 individuals were spotted casing the Sephora at 45 East 17th Street, then left and headed north on Broadway and west on East 19th Street, where they cased the location on Fifth Avenue. Police said that three of the individuals then entered the location and took merchandise without paying. Plainclothes officers then followed them, and after a brief chase, two of the suspects were arrested and the property was recovered.

The 18-year-old was charged with possession of stolen property and the 20-year-old was charged with grand larceny, possession of stolen property and possession of marijuana.

The 20-year-old was also later charged with robbery and possession of stolen property. Police said that the suspect was involved in a robbery on February 5 that took place at the corner of West 16th and Seventh Avenue around 2 p.m. Police said that the suspect, and two other individuals who were arrested on the day of the incident, got into an argument with three people. One of the victims was slashed on the hand by a knife and a wallet at cell phone were stolen during the fight.

MAN ARRESTED FOR STOLEN PHONE
Police arrested a 35-year-old man for stealing a phone from Memo Shish Kebab at 100 West 23rd Street on Monday, February 17 around 3:37 a.m. The victim told police that he was eating inside the restaurant when he got up from the table to get coffee, leaving his iPhone 11 unattended. When he returned, the phone was no longer on the table. Shortly after, the victim used the Find My iPhone app on another device. Once the victim was near the device according to the GPS location on the app, he played a sound on his stolen phone, and the suspect was stopped based on the sound. The victim’s iPhone was recovered from the suspect’s front right pants pocket. The suspect was charged with grand larceny and possession of stolen property.

MAN BUSTED FOR OFFICE BURGLARIES
Police arrested a 48-year-old man for multiple burglaries that took place earlier this month and last year.

Police said that the man took laptops from offices at 675 Sixth Avenue over the weekend of December 20. He broke into a commercial building at 30 Irving Plaza on February 14 around 6 p.m. and stole laptops from an office inside. Police said that he also took laptops from an office inside 110 Fifth Avenue on February 6. On December 21 around 1:30 p.m., the suspect broke into a WeWork office at 27 East 28th Street, but police said that he didn’t take anything. He also took laptops from a commercial building at 5 Union Square West on December 9.

The suspect was arrested inside the 13th precinct on Friday, February 21 around noon.

MAN BUSTED FOR BEING IN CAR REPORTED STOLEN
Police arrested a 46-year-old man for the unauthorized use of a vehicle in front of 121 West 27th Street on Monday, February 17 at 9:22 a.m. Police were responding to the location because of a report about a suspicious vehicle and upon further investigation, the suspect was found to be in possession of the key of a vehicle that had been reported stolen. The suspect claimed that he doesn’t know the name of the vehicle’s owner but said that he was given the key so that he could clean out the car.

COUPLE ARRESTED AFTER FIGHT IN E. 27TH ST. APARTMENT
Police arrested a 26-year-old man for obstruction of breath and a 28-year-old woman for assault inside 240 East 27th Street on Monday, February 17 around 4 a.m. The woman told police that the man locked the bedroom door in the apartment, preventing her from getting in, and when he opened the door, she and the man got into an argument, after which he put his hands around the woman’s neck, blocking off her breathing. Police said that the argument started after the two had been drinking, and after the woman went into the bedroom, she became irate and the fight got physical, with the woman causing scratches to the man’s forearm.

MAN NABBED FOR DRIVING WITHOUT LICENSE
Police arrested a 50-year-old man for driving without a license in front of 60 West 23rd Street on Tuesday, February 18 at 5:35 p.m. Police said that the suspect was stopped for making an improper right turn from Sixth Avenue onto West 23rd Street and could not produce a driver’s license when he was stopped. A license check determined that the suspect’s license had been suspended. The suspect was charged with an unclassified traffic infraction and with being an unlicensed operator.
