Police Watch: Man arrested for choking woman, Guitar theft in Union Square

MAN NABBED FOR CHOKING VICTIM ON WEST 25TH

Police arrested a 32-year-old man for obstruction of breath and assault in front of 109 West 25th Street on Saturday, February 22 at 12:30 a.m. The victim told police that he got into an argument with the suspect and was attempting to walk away. He said that he told the suspect to leave him alone and the suspect then grabbed the victim by the neck, causing pain and redness to the area. The suspect then punched the victim in the face multiple times, causing pain.

MAN ARRESTED FOR GUITAR THEFT, MULTIPLE TJ MAXX THEFTS

Police arrested a 45-year-old man for a theft from the TJ Maxx at 620 Sixth Avenue that took place earlier this year. Police said that on February 21 around 5:30 p.m., the suspect and two other people who haven’t been arrested entered the store and proceeded to use an unknown object to break open a glass case that contained purses and other items. The suspects then began to grab the items inside the case and put them in a bag before leaving without paying for the items. The suspect was arrested inside the 13th precinct on Sunday, March 8 at 11:45 a.m. and was charged with grand larceny.

Police said that the suspect also took a Givenchi purse from the store on February 11 around 7:15 p.m.

The suspect, along with two other men who weren’t arrested, also reportedly stole from the Guitar Center at 25 West 14th Street on February 12 around 2 p.m. Police said that while the man who was arrested distracted a store employee, the two other suspects grabbed a Taylor custom 12-string guitar with brown wood and ocean vine inlay.

MAN NABBED FOR SHOPLIFTING AT STUY TOWN WALGREENS

Police arrested a 56-year-old man for a theft from the Walgreens in Stuy Town on Tuesday, March 3 at 8:23 a.m. Police said that the suspect was inside the pharmacy at 298 First Avenue and was seen taking property from the store, concealing it inside a duffle bag and leaving without paying. The suspect was caught at the corner of Second Avenue and East 14th Street.

After he was arrested, police said that he also removed multiple dental products from the same store on February 25 around 9:30 a.m.

MAN ARRESTED FOR STEALING FROM SHELTER RESIDENT

Police arrested a 28-year-old man from a theft inside the 30th Street Men’s Shelter at 400 East 30th Street on Wednesday, March 4 at 9:29 a.m. Police said that video surveillance showed the suspect removing the victim’s pants containing his wallet from his bedroom without permission. DHS police identified the suspect on the video. The man was charged with grand larceny and possession of stolen property.

MAN BUSTED FOR VIOLATING RESTRAINING ORDER

Police arrested a 54-year-old man for criminal contempt inside 400 East 20th Street on Saturday, February 22 at 5 a.m. The victim told police she has a restraining order against the suspect, which police determined was valid and expires on September 6, 2024. The victim told police that the suspect was drunk when he showed up to her apartment and an argument ensued, after which the victim called the police. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident. Police said that the suspect was found on the roof landing of the victim’s building.

WOMAN NABBED FOR BURGLARY AT SEPHORA

Police arrested a 41-year-old woman for a burglary inside the Sephora at 119 Fifth Avenue on September 18, 2019 around 11:20 a.m. Police said that the suspect went inside the store and removed fragrances that she concealed in her bag, then left without paying for them. The suspect was arrested inside the 13th precinct on Sunday, February 23 at 10 a.m. and she was charged with burglary because she had been issued a no trespass affidavit on November 1, 2018 after she was arrested that day in the same store for reportedly shoplifting.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT ON WEST 27TH ST.

Police arrested a 36-year-old man for assault in front of 104 West 27th Street on Monday, March 2 at 3:13 a.m. The victim told police that after leaving his apartment, he encountered the man while walking west on West 27th Street. The suspect accused the victim of owing him money. The two got into a fight because the victim said that he didn’t owe the suspect any money and the suspect subsequently hit the victim in the face with a bottle, causing an injury. The suspect then fled west on West 27th Street but was caught at Eighth Avenue. He was also charged with weapons possession.

MAN ARRESTED FOR CHOKING WOMAN ON WEST 27TH

Police arrested a 25-year-old man for choking a woman in front of 104 West 27th Street on Monday, March 2 around 4 a.m. While officers were patrolling on West 27th Street, they saw a woman screaming, crying and walking away from the suspect from across the street. Police said that the suspect was following her and kicking her luggage after being told to stop. Upon further investigation, police found that the suspect had choked the victim while they were in their apartment on West 27th Street. The victim said that the suspect put his hands around her neck, causing difficulty in her breathing and pain in her throat.

DRUNK DRIVER ARRESTED ON SECOND AVENUE

Police arrested a 61-year-old man for drunk driving in front of 500 Second Avenue on Sunday, March 8 at 3:40 a.m. Police said that the suspect was involved in a motor vehicle collision with a metal fence and when officers arrived, a witness told officers that the suspect had been driving. Police said that the suspect was unsteady on his feet and had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

WOMAN BUSTED FOR ROBBERY, IMPERSONATING OFFICER

Police arrested a 30-year-old woman for a robbery on Monday, March 2 at 7 a.m. inside the 13th precinct. The victim told police that he was in his apartment at 10 West 16th Street on February 21 around 4 p.m. when he got a fraud alert on his phone. He said that he was later notified by the building’s doorman that a woman came inside the building lobby looking for a package. She then reportedly told the doorman that she was a police officer, and when the doorman didn’t believe her, she fled the building.

Police said that the woman was charged with robbery for the crime even though property was not forcibly taken because she tried to intimidate someone while impersonating a police officer. She was also charged with grand larceny and impersonation of a police officer.

MAN BUSTED FOR SMASHING WINDOW

Police arrested a 24-year-old man for criminal mischief in front of 59 West 22nd Street on Tuesday, March 3 at 1:33 a.m. Police said that the suspect was throwing glass bottles at a glass window, breaking it. The suspect also allegedly fled from officers who were attempting to arrest him and he ran into a nearby subway station before officers tasered him and he was able to be restrained and handcuffed.

The suspect was also charged with resisting arrest.

MAN ARRESTED FOR CAR THEFT

Police arrested a 23-year-old man for a car theft from in front of 150 Fifth Avenue on Wednesday, March 4 at 12:30 p.m. Police said that an investigation revealed that the suspect stole a 2017 Volkswagen from in front of the location. The suspect was charged with grand larceny of auto, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

WOMAN BUSTED FOR TRESPASSING AT HOTEL

Police arrested a 21-year-old woman for trespassing inside the Ace Hotel at 20 West 29th Street on Wednesday, March 4 at 4:14 p.m. Hotel security told police that the suspect entered the sub-basement of the hotel, which has signs posted saying that the area is for employees only. Security said that the suspect did not have permission to be there.

After she was arrested, the suspect was also charged in connection with a previous theft and was charged with grand larceny and possession of stolen property.
